Hello to all who visit here. We are Lance and Pat Kappel. We were born and raised on the western slopes of the Colorado mountains. Our roots run deep here. Lance's family homesteaded in Craig and Ouray, Colorado and Pat's family homesteaded in the valley between Paonia and Hotchkiss, Colorado. It is a beautiful and wonderous country here. Hot summers and cold winters for sure! |
Lance is a full time coal miner, he is underground about 7-8 miles for 12 hours a day! He likes the work but looks forward to the day he can spend all his time with his herd of Miniature Zebu. He is also a part time Emergency Medical Technician for a local ambulance department and he teaches EMS classes at the local Technical College. I (Pat) work summers in a greenhouse/nursery. I am also certified through the Amercian Heart Association to teach CPR/1st Aid classes. |

Justin is our oldest son. He is the proud father to our grandchildren Ethan Ryan and Emma Jayde. They live close to us and we see them often. Ethan loves the Zebu and always has to come feed them a treat or two. |

Mariah is our next in line. She is married to Cody and they have two beautiful girls named Cadence and Peyton. Cody is currently on tour in Afghanistan but they call San Diego, CA home. Cadence is the "Good Morning" girl who is awake and ready to go early every day! She loves to help PaPa feed the Zebu! |

Larissa is our third child. She graduated from high school in 2007 and let her wings take her far from home. She moved to San Diego, California with plans to go to college. Her plans for college have been put on hold for a while as she and Robert have a little boy born in January. His name is Joshua John Lee and he has proven to be a challenge to all of us. (Now I know why young people have babies, old people set in their ways are not meant to have babies! :) |

Lance Jr. is our baby of the family. He graduated high school May of 2009. He has moved to San Diego while he decides what he is going to do with his life. |

This is Grand Mesa, the mountain in our backyard. It is the worlds largest flat top mountain with over 300 natural lakes. The Ute Indians called it Thunder Mountain as it is a dormant volcano. What a wonderful place to raise the Miniature Zebu! |
